Patterns and colors!

First of all, I just wanted to say sorry for the lag. I know I said I would post every Tuesday and Thursday but Ive been getting a little bit busier but I will definitely try my best to keep up with the blog.

Of Fashion...

Right when I walked in, I was sent out to find some fabric for one of our customers. We were looking for a specific shade of purple that had a small tint of blue in it. I came across some colors but was not the color we were looking for. We did however find some old cloth that we used to match the color. When I got back, the customer happened to be there and luckily we finished all the samples just in time for him. I got to hang around and listen to how they troubleshooted and just to see how they interacted and conducted business with each other. In the end, he liked everything and just a few minor adjustments needed to be made. After all this, I went to help Anahit with some pattern making for the rest of the day. I picked up on some new pattern making techniques as well as some great advice and tips on life. We also hired a new pattern maker. Unfortunately, I am still unable to pronounce her name and I cant remember what it was at the moment. Very friendly lady and she also gave me some great advice and tips on life too.

I am still waiting on the pharmacies to give me a call back for my interview. I am hoping to get the pharmacy tech job at USC or Target. I think it would be a great step forward in the direction I want. I am almost done with the preliminaries for my pharmacy school application and hope to send it in very soon.

Lights!, Camera!, Action!

Of Fashion...

Today was another QC day. We had to go through a bunch of swimsuits to check if everything was done right and to check if there were any problems. Eventually, we got them all done and we were able to ship out a couple boxes of them to Israel. That is not all the swimwear, we still have much more to finish and ship out. It feels as if it is never ending. One surprising thing happened today. A film crew came in to shoot a video for an upcoming documentary about the LA fashion industry. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the name for the documentary. Hopefully, they will return to shoot again so I can find out.

Of Science...

Today I had my interview with USC School of Pharmacy. I interviewed with a panel of 8 people for my pharmacy tech job that I applied for there. I think I did well. Everyone there seemed to like me so hopefully I can get this position. I think it would be a great step forward to where I want to be.

Of Food...

Ive been hearing a lot about this restaurant called Wood Spoon, so I decided to try it out. They are known for their Chicken Pot Pie and that is exactly what I got. For $16.50 (including tax) you get a bowl of their famous Chicken Pot Pie and a side of salad. I have to say that the pot pie was quite delicious with their special sauce. I think it is a great place to try at least once but I dont think it is worth $16.50. They also offered other delicious dishes that averaged around $15. Before I give any final decisions, I would like to try their first and make my conclusion there.

CUE SEE!

Of Fashion...

Today was a very busy day to meet deadlines. We were finishing up the first round of workout shorts for an up coming brand called Work Out of the Day. I was mainly doing QC and getting all the shorts put together before the owner came so I didnt get a chance to take any picture while at the intern. After the scramble for the first round, we started on the second set of shorts for them.

Of Science...

I finished my interview with Target and I feel that I did much better with them than I did with Walgreens. I also got a call from the USC Pharmacy and I will be having an interview with them on Thursday before I go into my internship. After the first two interviews, I feel a little more comfortable doing interviews now. I know for a fact that it is easier to do the interviews when you prepare for them ahead of time. Many of the places ask similar questions so it is a bit easier to practice my answers. I am also continuing to work on my PCAT. My test is in September.

Of Food...

I met up with some friends after my internship and we caught up and some dinner at Native Foods in Westwood near UCLA. It is a vegetarian restaurant and going in I had some doubts since I personally do not really like vegetarian dishes but I must say the burger I had was delicious.

Onward!

Of Fashion...

Today mainly consisted of cutting with Carlos and doing some basic pattern making with Anahit. Ali stepped out for the day. Her family came out to visit her and she went to spend time with them. Kyle was also in and out so it was cool to kind of manage the place while everyone is out.

Of Science...

I got called in for an interview with the Walgreens Pharmacy. Im praying that I land the pharmacy tech job there. Getting this definitely made me feel more confident with myself and pursing the pharmacy career. It has also made me more motivated to study for my PCAT and work harder in life in general. Im also waiting for a call from Target. My goal is the Target Pharmacy but I would also be very satisfied with the Walgreens job too.

How Fashionating

Of Fashion...

I started out with running a couple errands for Kyle. I went down to the FedEx to ship out some patterns and cutting slips to Guatemala. The building the FedEx was in looked very beautiful on the inside. After, I got back, I finished up with some packaging of fabrics to be shipped out to UPS. I followed Anahit around for most of the day. I learned some more pattern making techniques and also got to watch the fitting process. Towards the end of the day, I helped Carlos cut some of the newer patterns for Jeremy Scott.

Of Science...

I finally got around to starting my Personal statement and I have to say, it is pretty difficult to write. I also started my studies for the PCAT. I got a in a few chapters and I am hoping to do at least one to two chapters a day.

Over and out

Of Fashion...

Today was somewhat of a slow but hectic day. We sent another large shipment of BNuty swimwear to Israel. But unfortunately that is not all of it. I believe we have the one pieces left and then we shall be done with the BNuty swimwear line. The whole process itself took roughly half the day to double check all the inventory being shipped and then the actually packaging and shipping. After that, I helped Carlos with the cutting. We are currently working on a 40s inspired outfit for the shooting of the show Kristen tomorrow.

Food:

Kyle treated me out to lunch today which was very nice of him. We walked around the Corner to a place called "Garage Pizza". A small place but the food was delicious. I ordered a Chicken and Mushroom pizza and Kyle got two cheese pizzas and a salad. The pizza here costs $3.00 for a cheese pizza and $0.50 for each additional topping. A little over priced but definitely worth trying out.

Putting the pieces together

Of Fashion...

Today I to learned a lot about pattern making thanks to our pattern maker, Anahit (Ahna-heet). I learned the basics of making patterns from already made shirts. I learned how to put the pieces together keeping in mind of the sewing that needs to be done along with the patterns. Depending on the pieces, some areas needed more room or less room for the seams and for the pieces to be sewed together. I also learned different pattern making techniques and different sewing techniques to make the final product more presentable. I also learned the terminology for each of the pieces. Self means the main fabric being used and contrast being another layer of different fabric or color that is going to be added with that piece. After Anahit finished her days work, I got to put together a shelf for Carlos. Although we didnt have all the pieces for it, I came up with some makeshift pieces for it and the finished product is up and ready for use. Both Carlos and Kyle were excited to see it up and the area looks much neater and clean.
Updates: The swimsuits are almost done for B-Nuty and the Jeremy Scott line is coming out amazing.

Doing more

Of Fashion...

I started today as always with more QC. We sent out another shipment of bikini bottoms for B-Nuty and we are finishing up the bikini tops. As soon as we finish a stack, more gets pulled out for QC. It seems as if its never ending. I went to the chinese food place called New Moon to pick up lunch for Ali and some of her clients. Got to enjoy the overcast in LA, but it was still hot as the past days were. We finally got air conditioning in the factory and it feels much better. It was a great investment. Thank you Ali for that. I got to end my day by learning the basics of lining up the patterns and cutting them out from Carlos. Im starting off slow but Im slowly learning the tips and tricks to it. Kyle said I could follow Ahnaheet (sp?) around next time and learn pattern making. Im looking forward to that!

 Of Science...

I finally registered for my PCAT in September and I got started on my applications for pharmacy school. THEY ARE NO JOKE! They are so tedious and take forever. Time to get started on studying for my PCAT.

  • On my way to pick up Ali's lunch, I saw a homeless guy poop in a corner. This is a first for me and it smelt really bad on the way back.
  • Kind of bummed that I didnt get to take a picture of the homeless guy with the "bitches" sign. I didnt see him either.
