A whole lot of new

Of Fashion...

Today was another day of just manual labor or as they call it "QC" (Quality Control). I guess the reason they call it QC is because you are checking for quality and putting all the pieces together at the same time. So I guess there is multiple stages of QC at every checkpoint of making the final product. Apparently, we are not as far as I thought about the B-Nuty swimsuits. There is literally hundreds of swimsuits to be put together and it just seems endless. It is interesting to see all the individual pieces finally put together. I think in total there is roughly 8 pieces total just to make a top of a bikini. I think doing all this QC has made me appreciate clothes a lot more; especially all the labor that goes into just making one item. Also, today one of the interns got fired for not wanting to do any of the work. Its sad to see how people dont appreciate the opportunities that they are given. I also found out we worked on some outfits for Rihanna. Look for that soon!

Of Science...

Nothing new here today. I just need to get started on studying for my PCAT and also registering for everything.

I am going to start adding a few new things to my blogs: The random observations, food, OOTD and hopefully LOTS OF PICTURES. I hope you guys enjoy.

Of Food...

Kyle recommended a place down the street on Spring St. called LA Cafe. A really nice small place to have lunch and the food is really delicious. Today I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Panini and it came with chips. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of it. I was later sent out to pick up some drinks for Kyle at a place called Pressed Juicery. A very hidden, hole in the wall place down on 9th and Los Angeles. They specialize in unpasteurized and raw fruit juices. I picked up a Strawberry Coconut Apple for him and he was nice enough to treat me to one. I was recommended the Citrus 2 by the cashier. I has Pineapple, Apple, Lemon, and Mint. It was super refreshing especially with today's weather.

Citrus 2: Pineapple, Apple, Lemon, Mint from Pressed Juicery

OOTD:

Plain White Mizuno Baseball Jersey, Black Levi Jeans (510), White Converse Chuck Taylors

Random:

"TOOPOGI"

  • License plate that said "LTSFLWR"
  • A homeless man with a sign that read "Sick of bitches bitching about other bitches"
    • I really want to get a picture of this. I will try to get one next week.

Things are looking good.

Of Fashion...

Today was mainly doing manual labor work. One thing I was proud of was that I helped trouble shoot some of the problems at the factory. And it seems like Im making big progress with everything. Josh dropped by again but I didnt get the chance to talk to him like I had hoped. I cant tell if it is because I was too scared to talk to him or if it was because he was busy. Ill just say it is a mix of both but I want to ask him if it is possible to shadow him around to see what he does or even just talk to him about the whole fashion experience (I cant think of a better word). I also want to see if I can get into his fashion show to see the finished products. The Jeremy Scott line is coming out nicely and a  few more pieces have been completed. Josh seems pleased with it. I cant wait for the whole line to be finished and I can say that I worked on that line. Carlos, our cutter, said he would teach me how to do the cutting of the patterns with the really cool sewing machine on Thursday. Im exciting to learn how to use it but it seems very intimidating haha. One good news is that Kyle happened to know the guy that created Tantum Los Angeles (I believe his name is Zee?) and Im hoping that he mentions me to him so that I may be able to work with him in the future. I guess what they say about connects is very true: Its all about who you know.

Of Science...

So after thinking long and hard, I think I have settled for just applying for pharmacy school. I will be starting my studies for the PCAT soon and hopefully applying for the coming cycle.

Goals:

  • Stay focused
  • Study hard
  • Stay motivated
Thank you god for blessing me.

Its only the second day...

Side note before I start:
I am scheduled to come in for my internship Tuesdays and Thursday. So expect to see updates on my blog every Tuesday and Thursday.

Of Fashion...

It's only the second day and I'm already learning so much about the process. I learned the whole process of pattern cutting and getting it all ready for the next step of the process, which is sewing. It's crazy to see all the individual pieces slowly coming together all from the giant cloth I brought up from the first day. To add onto yesterday's encounter, I met Josh Conner. From what I hear he is one of the designers for Jeremy Scott (?) and from my own personal experience, he is a very nice guy. Also, Juah is spelled Joie (pronounced Juh-wa). And I think she is the designer for Calvin Rucker(?) Very nice lady too. I really enjoy the atmosphere there. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help each other.

Of Science...

Still no reply from any of my applications. But I realize it's only been a few days so I need to be patient. Hopefully I will hear something soon. I'm planning on applying for a biotech job somewhere if I dont hear any news by the end of next week. I also talked to some of my co-workers and I feel more confident about applying for pharmacy school. It doesnt seem as far away from reach as it used to. I just have to stay focused on everything and stay on top of my research and schooling.

Goals:

  • Continue researching post bacc programs
  • Patience

The beginning

Of Fashion...

Today is officially the day that I started my internship at Lipstick Prophets. They do production for high end womens wear. Right off the bat, Kyle had me get into it. I started off doing swatches for a couple clients,  Ruby Jane and another brand I cannot remember the name of. After I got that done, I was sent downstairs to pick up fabric for another client by the brand name of Jeremy Scott. The name at the time sounded familiar but it didnt ring a bell yet. So I did some swatches for that too. Im curious to see what they are planning to do with the new patterns that came in. Before I ended my day, I sorted out pads for swim wear and helped with the finishing touches of bikinis that will be shipped out to Israel. Overall I think I left a great impression for my first day. Kyle and all the workers there seemed very pleased with my work.

I also had the pleasure of meeting one of the designers that rented out a room by the name of Juah (sp?). Im also very excited to see how her line will turn out.

Of Science...

I recently graduated from University of California, Riverside with a B.S. Biochemistry. I am still looking for a pharmacy technician job to help pay for the expenses of my internship. I applied for at least 5 openings so fingers crossed and hopefully I can get at least one of them.

Current Goals:

  • Find pharm tech job
  • Research post bacc programs
